I check the calcium every few weeks. I am not fantastic at keeping on top of my levels. The drip rate from the ca reactor into the sump is 40 drips per minute. The bubble count into the ca reactor is set to 10 bubbles per minute. The reactor is always on, but the solenoid attached to the regulator is off until the pH drops below 8.1, then it allows the CO2 to go into the reactor.
Does that make sense?
Bah, keep the questions coming. I dont mind. :)

Thanks Andre,

I knew because it was going through CO2 like there was no tomorrow (5kg bottle in about 2 weeks).

The pH probe is in my sump and its attached to my pH controller, so the regulator solenoid only turns on when the pH is under 8.1 (ie at night).

No probs about the help, I love talking tanks. :) California eh? Big vote for you today or tomorrow. :)

nice tank christian ! How did you know that your regulator had a leak ? Ya looks like im just going to get some average media just to toss in and see how that goes. Where do you keep your PH probe ? It doesnt look like you have it in the reactor. thanks for all the help christian im from california by the way, aussie was great when I went there for summer

Hi Andre,

The CO2 has been a problem because I have had a leak in my regulator. I now have a bigger tank (6x2x2) with lots of SPS in it and I think a bottle will last about 6 months (5kg).

Any decent aragonite or other form of calcium carbonite will work. I dont think you need brand name stuff. I didnt buy any brand name aragonite... I cant remember where I got mine but I got a big 5kg bag for about $20 and that will last for ages.

I will need to get a new ca reactor soon as this one is far too small. See my tank journal here: http://www.masa.asn.au/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=193700
