Australia Day
On the 26th of January 1788, the First Fleet, led by Governer Arthur Phillip, landed on the Australian shores with boat loads of convicts to create a 'prison island', if you will.
This year's Australia day was not unlike any other Australia day. Every 2nd car has a big flag on it, every second sub-16 year old has a fake Australian flag tattoo on their arm, face or leg.
To be brutally honest, I have no idea why people feel they need to celebrate one of the greatest attrocities in the history of the world.
When the British landed here, they masacred the native Aboriginals. They took their land and claimed it as their own. They took babies from their mothers to bring them up as 'White Children'.
And while this year was slightly different as our great new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd officially said 'sorry' (they requested he say 'sorry' as opposed to simply apologising) for the stolen generation and that is great, but Aboriginals still do not have rights to their own land.
On the 26th of January 1788 a Mass Oppression started which, in my opinion is still in effect now. It angers me! We had (and still have) no right to act that (and this) way towards our indiginous people! We need to take a page out of New Zealands book!
Wake up Australia, we are the savages, not them!
